“Yield My Heart”

I was in my kitchen last nite….and I was jacked up from listening to Kierra Sheard’s single, “Indescribable!” That song messed me all the way up….YES, all the way up. Has anyone else been jacked up by the Holy Spirit? When I say jacked up I mean, it takes you  through praise – into worship – into boo-hoo’n – crying – and wiping away tears. I know I’m not the only one! It’s just amazing when you proclaim words that seem small, yet describe a BIG God – they stir up the Holy Spirit….words like, INDESCRIBABLE, UNCONTAINABLE, POWERFUL, UNTAMEABLE, INCOMPARABLE, UNCHANGEABLE. When you speak these words and think of all He’s done for you….all that He’s able to do….and all that He will do – something in the heavens breaks forth and fills you until it overflows. If you’ve ever experienced this – you know exactly what I mean….Isn’t it amazing!?

Some of you may know, I’m a huge Kim Walker-Smith fan! I was also listening to one of her latest songs, “Yield My Heart” and the verse below is a petition to Jesus –  asking Jesus to teach us how to walk like him, asking him to let us be a place where He can rest and pour out his love, grace, and kindness! Have you ever let Him just pour His love into you? It’s such a sweet presence – I promise nothing is greater than that feeling.

Teach us how, teach us how, Jesus
To walk with You, as one with You, Jesus
Let us be a place where You can rest
Let us be a place where You can rest
With Your presence, God
To host Your presence, Jesus
Let us be a place where You can rest
Where You can pour out Your love, Your grace, Your kindness, Jesus
Teach us how, teach us how, Jesus
To walk everyday, everyday with You Jesus
And to yield our hearts, to give our hearts to You Jesus
To trust You, even when we cannot see
To trust You, even when the mountain seems so big
We will trust You, God,
Our faith will rise up from deep down inside
Cause we know that You are bigger still,
You are bigger still, You are bigger still, Jesus
We will yield our hearts, lay down our hearts for You, Jesus
We yield our hearts, we yield our hearts to You, Jesus

Some of you may ask, well – What does it mean to yield my heart….How can I surrender my heart to God….What do I have to do? I got some help from  All About Following Jesus.org. I believe this will help answer some of your questions:

“The word “surrender” is defined as: to yield, give up or over, submit, abandon, relinquish, cede, waive, or capitulate. In some translations, the word “surrender” is not found, but the concepts of “yielding” (Romans 6:16-19) or submitting (James 4:7) are used instead. In order to surrender your heart, body, and soul to God, one must be willing to yield to the sovereign claim of a righteous God. What is that claim? We need to understand that man is separated from a Holy God by sin and there must be reconciliation. The good news is that God has made a provision for man to be reconciled to Himself and that provision is found in the once-for-all sacrifice made by the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.

To surrender heart, body, and soul to God, one must understand that we are made up of our heart/mind, body, and soul. Yielding one part of ourselves without yielding the other is impossible. If we try to separate ourselves, we become “double minded” and therefore unstable (James 1:8). However, the initial surrender is only the beginning. The surrender of your heart, body, and soul to God is an ongoing process that begins the moment one is born again as a child of God and it continues until He calls the believer home or Jesus comes again. The process is one of growth in grace and knowledge and that comes from studying the Word of God and choosing to apply divine viewpoint to the life on a daily, sometimes moment-by-moment basis.

The eternal soul of man has one of two conditions. The first condition is eternally separated from God. If that condition is NOT remedied during life here on earth by accepting Jesus Christ as Savior (John 14:6), that soul is separated from God for eternity with no remedy. The second condition is that of a born-again soul. That person will have fellowship and communication with God through the LORD Jesus Christ during this life and will then enjoy His presence for eternity. Therefore, to surrender your heart, body, and soul to God, accept the LORD Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and LORD. “

So, the question you must answer to yourself is, what condition do I want to meet? Do I want to be eternally separated from God, lost without hope and peace or do I want to maintain fellowship and communication with Him to enjoy His presence, love, and kindness for eternity?

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10

“Therefore abandon the foreign gods that are among you, and turn your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.” – Joshua 24:23
